This blog provides bibliographical information on English-language primary sources in Russian history with particular emphasis on the late imperial and Soviet periods. It is intended to assist undergraduate and graduate students searching for primary sources translated into English or originally available in English.

While this blog focuses on primary sources available to UMW students at our library and through our library’s website, it also features primary sources available in nearby libraries and archives in the DC region. All students of Russian history — at UMW or elsewhere — are invited to use this blog as a finding aid in pursuing research projects in Russian history.

The maintainer of this blog is Steven Harris, assistant professor in the Department of History and American Studies at the University of Mary Washington. The research aide for this project is Lexy deGraffenreid, a history major at UMW who is presently researching and uploading primary sources for this blog.

This blog, launched in January 2009, is a work-in-progress and is intended to be a collaborative endeavor to which visitors can contribute. If you would like to make suggestions to the various posts and pages, please do so! Simply following the instructions on the various posts and pages for posting comments or contact me, Prof. Steven Harris, directly at sharris@umw.edu.

In any event, I hope this blog proves useful to students of Russian history. Good luck with your research projects!

Steven Harris
